Dyeing Pasta

I hosted a little Valentine's Day party for some of the kids' friends last Thursday.  I was trying to come up with some crafts and decided that they could make pasta necklaces.  But, I wanted to take it a step further and make the pasta fun colors so I dyed it.

It was fun, and might be great for a quick craft.

Just add about 2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol (I bet vinegar would work too), and drops of food coloring to a ziploc bag.  I used about 3-4 drops of food coloring and my pasta still turned out fairly pastel so you might want to add more.  Add 3 or 4 handfuls of the pasta you choose and let it sit for a few hours.  I let the "red" go overnight in hopes of it developing a more deep color, but alas, that didn't work.  I just ended up with a coral color (which was suppose to be pink) and a pink color (which was suppose to be red).  Smoosh the liquid in the bag around every hour or so to make sure the pasta all gets it's fair shair of coloring.

Notes about stringing necklaces:

Don't use yarn.  It's not stiff enough to go through the noodles.  Twine would probably work better.
